Imran Khan’s Nephews Face Charges Over May 9 Violence, Anti-State Campaigns

Lahore (Geo News Report, August 23, 2025): Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan’s nephews — Shershah Khan and Shahrez Azeem (also known as Shahrez Khan) — have been arrested in connection with the May 9, 2023 riots and alleged anti-state campaigns.

Shershah Khan Sent on 5-Day Physical Remand

According to Geo News, Shershah Khan was arrested on Friday and produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore, where Judge Manzar Ali Gill handed him over to the police on a five-day physical remand.

The First Information Report (FIR) accuses Shershah of being present during the attack on the Jinnah House and of inciting others to riot. Police claimed that video evidence confirms his involvement. He is also alleged to have damaged a police van, attempted to set it on fire, and remained active in running anti-state digital campaigns.

Shahrez Azeem Granted 8-Day Remand

On Thursday, police arrested Shershah’s brother Shahrez Azeem, who was later presented before the ATC on Friday. The court granted the police eight days of physical remand for further investigation.

Police officials stated that Shahrez’s name was included in a supplementary investigation report filed in September 2023. They further added that his phone and other digital evidence still need to be recovered.

Family’s Response

Both are sons of Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan. Reacting to the arrests, she maintained that her sons were being targeted solely because of their family ties, saying: “Their only crime is that they are Imran Khan’s nephews.”
