🇺🇸 Trump Imposes Additional 25% Tariff on India, Total Tariff Now at 50%
Washington, D.C. – According to a report by a foreign news agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, raising the total tariff to 50%. The White House issued an official statement confirming the decision, stating that it was made through an executive order.
The statement from the White House emphasized that it was both “necessary and appropriate” to increase the duties on goods imported from India. The move comes amid rising tensions over India’s continued direct and indirect oil trade with Russia.
This latest action follows Trump’s announcement just a day earlier, where he warned that additional tariffs would be imposed on India within 24 hours. In his public message, Trump said that the current 25% tariff on Indian imports was not enough and would be increased due to India’s behavior in global trade.
President Trump criticized India for what he described as “unfair trade practices”, stating that India was not a reliable trade partner. He further accused India of fueling the war machine in Ukraine by continuing its purchase of Russian oil.
Trump had previously warned of such actions, expressing concerns over India’s decision to buy oil from Russia despite ongoing sanctions and global condemnation. He claimed that India was not only purchasing Russian oil in large quantities but also reselling it at a profit, undermining Western efforts to isolate Moscow economically.
In a post shared on social media, Trump stated:
“India does not care how many people are dying at the hands of Russian forces in Ukraine. That is why I am increasing tariffs on Indian products even further.”
This latest move is expected to escalate trade tensions between the two countries and could impact India’s export-driven industries significantly.
